sun map families prefer the safe beaches for children at Chatelaillon (40kms/25miles), Meschers sur Gironde (25kms/15miles) or Saint Palais sur Mer (20kms/12miles)
If you’re looking for surf and feeling sporty then the wind swept beaches on the Île d’Oléron are for you.

Each to his own island:

marais salant Whilst you’re on holiday in the Charente Maritime you must visit at least 1 of the 4 islands in the county:
L'ile d'Oléron, called the sunny island, has many facets to show you; roam the island by rambling through the countryside, by bicycle on the many cycle paths or by boat.
Discover the history; the citadel at Chateau d’Oléron, numerous forts, Romanesque churches and lighthouses.
L'île de Ré, has many aspects that will encourage you to wind down; it’s beaches of fine sand, forests, harbours, lighthouses, salt marshes… take a bicycle ride for the day and discover it at your own pace.
